These signals include 4-20 mA, 0-10 V, strain gauge, pulse, thermocouple and RTD. Our hazardous-area instruments are approved by UL, CSA, ATEX, and IECEx as explosion-proof, intrinsically safe, and nonincendive. Many of our explosion-proof models feature SafeTouch® through-glass buttons which ensure safe operation without the need to remove the cover. Intrinsically safe, loop-powered instruments derive their operating power from the 4-20 mA current loop with a relatively low voltage drop, preventing the need to run additional, costly power lines into the hazardous area.

  • The Loop Leader PD6600 is an ATEX, IECEx approved, and UL listed, intrinsically safe and nonincendive, loop-powered, 1/8 DIN process meter. A dual-line display featuring five digits on the top line and eight digits on the bottom line, preprogrammed engineering units, loop-powered backlight with a unique red backlight option for alarm conditions, and optional bargraph display (PD6608) or feet & inches display (PD6607) provide a clear and attractive presentation of the process. All models come equipped with two open collector outputs and are available with two solid state relays and a 4-20 mA analog output. These outputs can be programmed for alarm indication, signal retransmission via pulse or analog signal, pump control, and a number of other useful features. The fact that this meter is loop-powered means that there is no need to run additional, costly power lines; the meter gets all of the power it needs from the 4-20 mA loop. The Loop Leader loop-powered process meter is built in a shallow-depth case with a IP65 front and features loop-powered backlighting and a wide -40 to 158°F (-40 to 70°C) operating temperature range. It doesn't matter if it's hazardous areas, indoors or outdoors, in bright sunlight or a dimly lit plant, or in an area that is wet, dirty, hot, or cold, the Loop Leader can go just about anywhere.

One of the most convenient features of these instruments is their large, dual-line display which is typically used to display flow rate on the 2.8" 5-character alphanumeric top display and flow total, flow grand total, or a tag on the 1.5" 8-character alphanumeric bottom display. Both display lines use 14-segment, alphanumeric characters that provide much clearer indication of tags, units, or alarm messages than 7-segment characters do.

    The PD4 is available in two configurations: Display only and with two solid-state relays and 4-20 mA analog output. All models come equipped with two open collector outputs and remote contacts. The open collector outputs are useful for alarm indication or pulse output. The remote contacts can be used to remotely operate the four programming buttons, to reset the total, to start/stop a timer/stopwatch, and more. The relays can be programmed for alarm indication, sample, timer, batch control, or stopwatch.

    Finally, the PD4-6628 is an intrinsically safe version that can be installed in hazardous areas.

One of the most convenient features is the dual-line display, typically used to display the process variable on the 5-character alphanumeric top display and the units of measure or tag on the 8-character alphanumeric bottom display. Feet and inches models display level in feet and inches on the top display while the 8-digit alphanumeric bottom line may be used to display a tag or custom message.     It is available in either an aluminum or stainless steel enclosure with ½" NPT or M20 threaded conduit openings. The PD663 is easy to install and program and the display can be seen in a variety of lighting conditions, even in bright sunlight. It will operate down to -40°C and is approved for installation in areas where the temperature gets as cold as -55°C, however the display will cease functioning.


  • The PD685 is an easy to use, loop-powered indicator, certified by CSA, ATEX and IECEx as intrinsically safe. The PD685 carries international certifications under both the Class/Division System and Zone System, and is thereby suitable for use in gas and dust hazardous areas worldwide. For Division 2 applications where intrinsically safe interfaces are not needed, the PD685 is able to be installed without barriers! To achieve this ability, the PD685 underwent a special 'nonarcing assessment' under the UL 121201 and CSA C22.2 No. 213 standards, and was determined to be a device incapable of causing an ignition on its own. The PD685 is wellsuited for both indoor and outdoor applications and carries a variety of environmental ratings, including NEMA 4, Type 4X and IP67.

    The PD685 can be seen from considerable distance in bright sunlight or dimly lit areas when the standard backlight feature is activated. The fact that this meter is loop-powered means that there is no need to run additional, costly power lines into a hazardous area. The meter gets all of the power it needs from the 4-20 mA loop and its 1 V (4 V with backlight) drop results in a minimal burden on the loop. The meter features a wide -40 to 75°C operating temperature range and is available with a ½" conduit hole in a location of your choice for easy installation. Calibration is a quick two-step process involving the adjustment of only two sets of coarse and fine, non-interacting potentiometers.

It is a multi-purpose display and controller capable of scanning up to 16 process variables and includes dual analog process inputs.
